Cal is an Irish multidisciplinary creative freelancing across Film, TV & Art production. He focuses on telling stories that unravel the joys and struggles caused by contradictions in our identities through cultural pride, heritage, love, family and justice.

 

Cal’s creative abilities are fortified with over four years of knowledge, insights and professional mentoring from UK & Irish industry leading organisations: BBC Arts (New Creatives), BBC, IFI & NI Screen Archives (Make Film History), Lifted Entertainment (ITV), The Network (Edinburgh TV Festival), DocLab (The Grierson Trust) & Creative Access.

 

Since graduating from Newcastle Universitys' BA (Hons) Film Practice 2019, Cal has expanded his creative knowhow and networks by being selected for schemes like UK New Artists Residency 2021 & HOME Film Lab 2022. Cal was invited to industry day for Screen Film School Manchester and interviewed by the UK's largest student newspaper Manc Union on his takes as a Queer film director.

 

As an award-winning filmmaker, his work has been featured across multiple US & UK film festivals including Liverpool Irish Festival, London Irish Film Festival & BBC Upload. His debut commission Hold the Sausage 2021 is a heartfelt comedy in an iPlayer playlist titled ‘films from the best new filmmakers’.

 

Cal’s next scripts in development explores queer adolescence and Ireland's partition. Cal champions independent creation by collaborating on music videos with local artists. He is a member of Independent Film Cooperative Manchester and a monthly screenwriters group.
